Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a FM2 visa and live in Mexico for at least five years legally with a status of immigrant. Make two copies of your visa paperwork and any other paperwork that was done when you first moved to the country.

    • 2

Obtain form DNN-3 and fill it out. A link is provided in Resources.

    • 3

Make two copies of the pages of your passport.

    • 4

Give a sworn statement in writing of every time you left the country for the past five years and the reasons why.

    • 5

      Get a passport photo made.

    • 6

Take the form, passport, copies of the passport, sworn statement, photo, visa, requisite fees and copies of your visa to the local Immigration and Naturalization Office. You will be asked to set up a time to take a test on Mexican history. You must pass the test to qualify for citizenship. Once the application and test are complete, you will have to wait for them to get back to you. If you are granted citizenship, you will then have dual citizenship with Mexico and the country you are from. Mexico will not ask you to renounce another country's citizenship status.
