How to Use a York Rake

How to Use a York Rake thumbnail
York Rakes have been around for a long time.

A York Rake is a device that is attached to the back of a vehicle and pulled behind to allow for easier land maintenance. The forks on the rake vibrate, which causes the dirt and rocks to be pulled up out of the ground. Turning the rake at a 30-degree angle allows the rocks to be sorted out and pushed aside to be picked up later. The whole process of using the rake makes leveling and clearing the ground an easier task than raking by hand. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the ball hitch from the back of the vehicle.

    • 2

Slide the York Rake into the trailer hitch. Align the rake with the hole in the side of the hitch. Slide the locking pin through one side of the trailer hitch, through the York Rake and then out the other side. Lock into place.

    • 3

Unravel the cord to the control box, and plug it into the 12V DC outlet inside the vehicle. This will determine the height of the rake; press the up and down arrows to raise and lower the unit outside.

    • 4

Pull the pin out of the rake to adjust the angle. Turn the rake at a 30-degree angle (either left or right) and slide the pin in place. Having the rake at an angle will enable the rake to pull up rocks and stones and leave them laying on the ground beside where the rake has just been. This way you do not end up with a row of rocks stuck between the vehicle and the rake, which can cause major damage to the vehicle and the rake.

    • 5

Drive the vehicle with the rake behind. Do not drive too fast or the rake will not be able to do its job properly. The rake will pull up rocks, break up dirt and leave the land level behind.
