How to Remove a Smart Water Filter
The GE Smart Water filter is designed to reduce sediment, lead, cysts and turbidity in the drinking water and ice from your refrigerator. It also reduces chlorine taste and odor from the water. It does not remove the beneficial fluoride from your drinking water or ice. This type of filter fits some GE, Hotpoint and Kenmore model refrigerators that have a round filter that is usually located inside the refrigerator above the top shelf. Removal and replacement of the filter requires just a few minutes and can be done without any tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Locate the filter in your refrigerator. It is generally located above the top shelf in the refrigerator.

Turn the filter gently in a counterclockwise direction and pull it down to remove it. The water supply to the refrigerator will automatically shut off once the filter is removed.

Write the current date on your new filter. These filters are designed to last for six months. Fill the new filter with fresh water. Insert it into the refrigerator in the space where the old filter was mounted. Push it gently into place. Turn it clockwise to tighten.

Tips & Warnings
After you change your filter, remember to reset your filter-change reminder light if your refrigerator is equipped with one. To reset the light simply push the reset button down for a few seconds.
