Transform a simple metal bed frame by attaching a wooden headboard.

Although metal bed frames are economical and easy to store, set up and move around, they don't contribute anything to a bedroom's décor. A headboard turns your bed into an attractive part of the bedroom furniture when it is attached to the metal bed frame. Metal frames typically have brackets at the ends of the side rails for attaching headboard and footboards.

Step 4

Drop washers onto the shafts of button-head, hex-socket cap screws that are 2 3/4 inches long by 1/4 inch in diameter.

Step 5

Thread the screws into the pilot holes, from the back of the headboard, and into the holes in the bed frame brackets.

Step 6

Thread nuts onto the shafts of the screws to secure the bed frame and headboard together. Hand-tighten the nuts.

Step 7

Insert the tip of an Allen key into the socket on the screw head to hold it in place. Finish tightening the nut with the adjustable wrench.
