How to Make a Slow Processor Computer Run Faster
Speed is one of the most sought-after qualities in a computer. Waiting for a program to open or a Web page to load can not only be frustrating, but also costly when businesses are relying on these processes to help earn their income. While some processors are faster than others by design, there are ways of improving the performance of a slower processor that can help it run faster and more efficiently.

Restart your computer. If the system has been on for a while, the processor could be getting bogged down under multiple processes and files that are running unnecessarily. A simple reboot can improve processor speed and performance.

Run a virus scan on your system. Computer viruses and spyware are notorious for slowing down computer performance. Scan the system for viruses at least once a week and delete any flagged files to prevent malware from slowing down your processing speed.

Close any programs that are not needed and limit the number of programs running at any one time. The more files are open, the slower the processor will run as it manages the needs for each program. Hit the "Alt," "Ctrl" and "Del" keys at the same time to open the Task Manager. From there, you can select any programs that are running and close them.

Limit the number of files that run at startup by opening your startup folder, which is normally located at C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Remove any unnecessary programs from this folder to prevent them from launching at startup in the future.

Empty your Recycle Bin by right-clicking on it and choosing to delete the files. Also delete any temporary Internet files and cookies by accessing the Tools menu in your browser. There will be an "Options" menu that allows you to delete these files, and this can further increase processing speed.
