Locate the exchange rate on an international exchange rate table. You can find an exchange rate table in major newspapers, at banks, at hotels and visitor centers and online. You need to find the number of GBP pounds per dollar, or the value of a GBP pound in dollars.

If your table only shows you the number of dollars per GBP pound, you can derive the number of GBP pounds per dollar by dividing the number one by the number of GBP pounds per dollar. If your table already shows you the number of GBP pounds per dollar, you can skip step two.

Tips & Warnings
You can use an online converter as an alternate method. Type in the number of dollars you have then click the appropriate button, which typically reads “okay” or “calculate.” The converter will then display the number of GBP you have. Online converters can be easily found by searching for "pounds to dollars" or "exchange rates."
Look at a current table to find the proper exchange rate. An older table will have the incorrect value for converting dollars to GBP.
