Connect a dot maxtrix printer with a serial cable.

A dot matrix printer is an extremely old printer no longer produced by most printer companies. Many of these printers are still in circulation, however, and it is possible to use a dot matrix printer on a Windows computer running 2000 or Office XP. You just need to have a dot matrix computer that comes with a small floppy driver installation disk.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the serial cable into the serial port on the back of the dot matrix printer. Attach the opposite end of the cable into the serial port on the rear of your computer (both Windows 2000 and Office XP computers still have these serial connection ports).

    • 2

Power on the printer and the computer, then insert the driver installation disk.

    • 3

Click "Start," "My Computer" and double-click the floppy "A:" drive icon. Choose "Run," and the driver installation wizard loads onto the screen. Follow the short set of prompts to install the dot matrix driver onto the system.

    • 4

Launch the program you want to load from, open a document you wish to print and then choose "File," "Print." Select the dot matrix printer as the default printer, then click "OK." The dot matrix printer produces the Windows 2000 or Office XP document.
