Connect a wireless printer to your laptop computer.

Many computer networks connect a single printer to a router, making it available to all the computers on the network. If you are at home and you don't have a router connected to a laptop computer, however, it is still possible to set up an HP wireless printer with your laptop system. This connection process only takes a moment or two of your time, and soon you'll be free to print anything with your HP wireless printer.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the wireless receiver into one of the USB ports on your computer (if the printer comes with such a device), then power up the printer and the laptop computer (if not already on).

    • 2

Insert the driver installation CD into the disc drive of the computer, and the installation wizard appears on the screen momentarily. Follow the short series of prompts to complete the driver installation.

    • 3

Click the "Start" button on the desktop, then choose "Control Panel." If using a newer operating system, click "Device and Printers," then "Add Printer." If using Windows XP, choose "Printers and Faxes," followed by "Add Printer."

    • 4

Click "Add a Network, Wireless or Bluetooth Printer," or click "Next," "A Network Printer, or Printer Attached to Another Computer."

    • 5

Wait for the laptop to detect the wireless printer (if using Windows Vista or 7). After it detects the printer, click on the display screen and click "OK" to complete the setup. If using Windows XP, click "Connect to a Printer on the Internet or on a Home or Office Network." Click "Next," then choose the driver you just installed on the system. The computer now connects to the wireless printer.
