How to Replace GE Ceramic Stove Tops
GE ceramic stove tops fit in a counter for a clean, streamlined look. They clean up quickly with an all-purpose cleaner and soft cloth. Unfortunately, they're fragile and prone to cracking. You can replace damaged cook tops, or possibly just the glass that covers them, depending on your model. To avoid cracks, never store heavy objects above your cook top, use a flat-bottomed canner and avoid placing bakeware on them. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the cupboard underneath the GE ceramic cook top. Unplug the unit from the wall.
-
2
Unscrew the thumb screws--these lie under the cabinet, directly below the cook top--with a screw driver and remove them.
-
-
3
Remove the retainers that hold the cook top in place.
-
4
Push gently up on the cook top from under the cupboard with one hand. Grasp the cook top by one edge with the other hand. Hold the cook top with both hands and slowly lift it out of the counter. Set it aside.
-
5
Lift the new cook top with both hands on either side. Slowly insert the cook top into the counter. Inspect it to make sure it is level on all sides. Adjust it carefully if necessary, but don't force it to make contact with the counter top.
-
6
Attach the retainers to the cook top under the counter. Screw in the thumb screws with a screw driver to secure it.
