Ginger root can be found in most supermarkets and grocery stores.

A major component of traditional Chinese medicine, it has also been used in many different foods and beverages known to relieve signs of distress in the stomach such as ginger snaps and ginger ale. Instructions

    • 1

Wash your fresh ginger root under cool running water. If the root you purchased is organic, this step is generally unnecessary as there are no harmful chemicals on the skin of the root in this scenario.

    • 2

Slice a small piece approximately the width of the tip of your smallest finger from the ginger root, using the knife. Place it into the saucepan. Pour the two cups of water into the saucepan and bring it to a boil.

    • 3

Cover the saucepan with its lid and reduce the heat setting to a low simmer. The lid helps keep the nutrients that can escape in the steam from being lost.

    • 4

Simmer for approximately 10 minutes to ensure the water gets full absorption of the ginger root. The longer you simmer the tea, the more potent the flavor becomes. For a milder flavor alter the time accordingly.

    • 5

Remove the lid and place the funnel into your cup. Cover the funnel with a cheesecloth and pour the mixture through to strain.

    • 6

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before drinking.
