How to Apply for Special Duty Tour as an Air Force Recruiter
Air Force recruiters are responsible for attracting and enlisting motivated, qualified individuals into the U.S. Air Force. Recruiting is a special-duty tour. Recruiters in the U.S. Air Force attend recruiting school to learn not only eligibility requirements but also programs of study such as applicant processing, marketing and telephone techniques Recruiters receive special-duty assignment pay, a monthly out-of-pocket expense account and a supplemental clothing allowance over and above the annual clothing allowance. Recruiters may be eligible for a cost-of-living allowance program based upon the geographical area of the recruiter's assignment. If there is no governmental housing available, a recruiter may be eligible for a leased housing program.

Complete the Time in Service (TIS) requirements as an airman. An applicant must be senior airman with at least 36 months TIS for a four-year enlistee or 60 months TIS for a six-year enlistee.

Apply to be released from your current AFSC to serve a four-year special duty tour as a recruiter. Airmen may apply as early as 12 months prior to meeting their Air Force Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Time on Station (TOS) requirement. Airmen may apply for a waiver of the TOS requirement.

Pass the annual fitness test. Applicants may not exceed maximum allowed body mass index and must not be enrolled in a mandatory fitness program. Applicants must have a minimum physical profile of 1-1-1-3-2-1 and a minimum dental classification of II. Qualify in the Primary Air Force Specialty Code and possess the skill level commensurate with grade and rank.

Complete an AETC Special Duty Assignment application.

Fax the completed AETC Special Duty Assignment application along with copies of your last three EPRs, valid driver's license and a copy of your physical training score from the Air Force Portal to the Recruiting Screening Team at DSN 665-4728 or at 210-565-4728.

E-mail two good quality digital photographs of yourself in uniform to rst@rs.af.mil. One photo must be full-body front view, and the second photo must be full-body side view.

Undergo a face-to-face interview. Airmen who are approved for release from their AFSC will be contacted by the recruiting squadron to schedule the face-to-face interview.

Attend and successfully complete the seven-week recruiting school. During the time that you are attending the recruiting school, you shall also participate in physical training twice each week.

Applicant undergo an extensive screening process Screening includes a face-to-face interview and a review of the airman's application, a credit check, photos, driver's license, fit test history, medical records of the airman and his family as well as the Unit Commander's recommendation.
