How to Check if you're on ChexSystems
ChexSystems is a reporting agency used by many banks and credit unions. The agency keeps a large database of consumers who have had trouble managing their checking accounts. If you've never had problems with a checking account, it's unlikely that your name is on a ChexSystems list. Frequent overdrafts and charged off checking accounts are some common reasons for being in the ChexSystems database. If you are, you may have trouble opening a bank account. If you are concerned and want to avoid the potential embarrassment of being turned down, you can order your ChexSystems file for free.
