How to Spin a Roulette Wheel

How to Spin a Roulette Wheel thumbnail
Roulette is a casino game where players guess where a steel ball will land on a spinning wheel.

Roulette is a game of chance most often found in casinos. Players can place bets on a single number, group of numbers, odd or even numbers, and the colors red and black. A dealer or "croupier" spins the tilted, notched wheel. Immediately after, the dealer spins a small steel ball around a track outlining the wheel. The ball spins around the track in the opposite direction of the wheel, eventually slowing down and falling on one of the 38 notches on the wheel. After a few practice turns, anyone can spin a roulette wheel like a pro.

Instructions

    • 1

Close all the bets on the table. This means players won't be putting their chips down on the table until the next turn.

    • 2

Drag the wheel clockwise using your dominant hand. Grip the wheel by the notches located around the edge of the wheel. Pull the wheel motioning across your body.

    • 3

Spin the small steel ball counterclockwise in the opposite direction of the wheel. Place your hand aside the rail of the wheel and spin the ball using your fingers to snap the ball from your hand. The ball will eventually lose momentum and fall into one of the numbered slots. The wheel must make a full rotation or it is considered a bad spin and will not count.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dealers or croupiers are the only people allowed to spin the roulette wheel at a casino.
