If you've had a couch for a while, it might have stains that are unsightly and embarrassing to present to guests. You can cover the couch with a slipcover to make it appear new, but slipcovers often can be quite expensive. Or perhaps you just purchased a new couch and you want to protect it from stains and wear and tear, so you want a slipcover to put over it.       Measure the height and length of the couch. Measure the height and length of the cushions and add those measurements to your overall height and length measurements. Add another 4 inches all around to allow for tucking the slipcover into the couch's seams.

      Purchase the appropriately sized sheet for your couch, based on the measurements you made. Drape the sheet evenly over the front of the couch so that 1 inch of the sheet is lying on the floor and an extra 1 inch is at the top of the couch.

      Tuck the sheet around the couch cushions and the corners of the arm rests. Tuck the excess sheet at the bottom of the couch under the couch and the excess sheet at the top of the couch behind the top of the couch.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the couch is in middle space and not against the wall, simply follow the same procedure as above, only double the height measurement and then use pins to fold up and pin any excess sheet to the bottom of the back of the couch.

  • Keep in mind the color scheme and theme of the room in which the couch is located and choose a sheet that will complement and match your room.

  • You might have to retuck and readjust homemade slipcovers make from sheets frequently because sitting and lying on them can cause the sheets to be pulled from their tucks.
