How to Configure a Logitech Z-5500 Speaker Setup on a Mac Pro
The Logitech Z-5500 is a surround sound system that produces its audio in full Dolby Digital. Although the speakers are designed primarily for Windows-based computer systems, it is possible to hook up and configure the setup with a Mac Pro. Both computers use the same line-out connection port, so hooking up the Logitech Z-5500 speaker system isn't too different from plugging the system into a Windows PC.

1
Position the subwoofer of the Logitech Z-5500 on the ground near the Mac Pro. Connect the subwoofer to a nearby power outlet (it powers the rest of the speakers).
-
2
Position the middle channel speakers (the flat, wide speakers) directly below the Mac Pro's monitor. Plug the wires running out of the speaker into the "Center" channel connection port on the subwoofer.
-
-
3
Place two of the satellite speakers along the side of the Mac monitor (one on each side). Connect the wires from the speakers into the "Front Left" and "Front Right" speaker connections.
-
4
Position the final two speakers behind where you sit and run the wires into the "Rear Left" and "Rear Right" speaker hookups.
-
5
Connect the controller pad to the "Control" port on the Logitech Z-5500 subwoofer and position it near your keyboard so you have easy access.
-
6
Plug the 3.5mm provided cable into the "Line Out" port on the Mac Pro, then insert the opposite end into the "Line In" port on the subwoofer.
-
7
Click the "Settings" icon on the dock, then click "Sound." When the Sound window loads, choose "Output" and uncheck the "Mute" option. Close out the Sound window and your Mac Pro is ready to use the Z-5500 speaker system.
