Removing Candle Wax From a Glass Container thumbnail
Candle wax removal from glass containers is possible using both heat and cold.

Glass containers such as votive candleholders reflect the light of a candle beautifully and retain the melted candle wax. But the wax will harden and stick to the glass as it cools, making it difficult to remove. Remove candle wax from your glass container by using both hot and cold temperatures. Instructions

    • 1

Set your room temperature glass container in a bowl of hot water for 20 minutes or until the wax in the container melts again.

    • 2

Remove the glass container from the bowl and use a paper towel to wick up the melted wax. Do not clean out the glass container with the paper towel, as this will smear a thin layer of wax on the entire inside of the glass container.

    • 3

Put the glass container back into the bowl of hot water. Put fresh hot water in the bowl, if necessary. Pull the glass container out of the bowl when the residual wax melts again. Wick up the residual wax with a clean corner of a paper towel. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until most of the wax is removed.

    • 4

Let the glass container sit for a couple of hours to cool to room temperature.

    • 5

Put the glass container in the freezer for about an hour, remove from the freezer and slide any residual wax sideways to pull it off the glass container.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not skip letting the glass container cool down before you put it in the freezer. Hot glass in a freezer can crack or shatter.
