How to Convert an RCA Cable to a PC Monitor

An RCA cable (also known as a composite cable) is commonly used to connect video devices such as VCRs, DVD players and video cameras to a television. Normally, you cannot connect a PC monitor to these video devices because PC monitors commonly use VGA connectors/cables instead of RCA. However, if you use a RCA to VGA adapter, you can convert a RCA cable to work with a PC monitor.

Things You'll Need

• VGA cable
• PC monitor
• RCA video cable
• Video device
• RCA to VGA adapter

Instructions

1. Connect one end of the RCA cable to the back of the video device into the port labeled "Line Out" or "Video Out." The RCA port is the circular, yellow port with a hole in the middle. It is next to a red and white RCA connector.

2. 

   The yellow port is an example of a RCA connector.

   Connect the other end of the RCA cable to the RCA connector on the RCA to VGA adapter. The RCA connector looks similar to the port on the VCR in that it is circular and yellow with a hole in the middle. Depending on the adapter, the connector may be on a cable that comes off the connector.

3. 

   The blue connector is a VGA connector.

   Connect the VGA cable to the VGA connector on the adapter. The trapezoid-shaped VGA adapter is normally blue, though it can sometimes be black.

4. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to the monitor.
