How to Reset a Motion Light

How to Reset a Motion Light thumbnail
When the view is clear, you can plan your best gaming moves.

Nothing lowers your ability to step up your game faster than a distorted monitor or TV screen. When the Xbox 360 console's motion light settings are off, your next move is off too. That's because these settings control interpolation, smoothing, contrast and well, in general, lighting. The only way to cure it is to simply stop playing and reset it.

Things You'll Need

  • Xbox 360 console
  • TV or computer screen monitor

Instructions

    • 1

Take out any discs that are in the disc tray.

    • 2

Turn off the Xbox 360 console and wait 30 seconds.

    • 3

Restart the Xbox 360 console. (Note to Xbox Wireless Controller users: Turn on the console with the Player One controller, which has the upper-left quadrant light lit up. Use the Xbox Guide button to do this.)

    • 4

Press and hold down the “Y” button and pull the right trigger as the console starts up to reset the Xbox 360 console’s display settings. (Note: The console will restart automatically after this step.)

Tips & Warnings

  • Incorrect TV settings are the cause of motion light problems. Before you try these steps, verify that your TV is properly set up. Check your TV manual. PAL console setting should be PAL 60; NTSC consoles work on TVs that support NTSC.

  • Avoid disappointment and wasting more of your time by contacting customer service first--before you attempt to take the Xbox 360 console in for repair.
