How to Fund a Homeschool

Books are just one expense that a homeschooling family incurs.

For those who choose to homeschool their children, buying supplies and curriculum materials can be a stressful prospect. Fortunately, there are ways to fund your homeschool, and many free materials are available, too. Grants and funding can be used to purchase books, computers and even tutoring for specialized needs. Funding and free supplies give homeschooling families some relief from the costs of teaching at home.

Instructions

1. Call your public school district. Some districts receive funding for homeschooling families that rarely gets used because no one has knowledge of it. These programs may offer free computers, tutoring and even books.

2. Make calls to churches in your area. Many churches help with homeschooling, especially if you are a member of that church or that particular affiliation. Some churches offer classes that are a result of grants and funds they have received for that exact purpose.

3. Attend free events as often as possible. Local libraries will often offer free programs, and many museums sponsor free- or low-cost admission days.

4. Call local homeschool groups. Some homeschool organizations will apply for funds and grants to help students. Organizations may have more grant money made available to them than do individuals. .

5. Call your state's Department of Education if your children have medical conditions that require them to be taught at home. The government has funds available for this purpose.
