Transfer inetpub from one computer to another.

Inetpub is the directory location for .NET web projects. The inetpub directory is the standard location where all the web project files and directories are stored. The inetpub directory is a part of Internet Information Services (IIS), which is the Microsoft web host application. You can migrate your current inetpub files over to a new server and host the websites on the different machine. The server hosting the new files needs some simple configurations.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Control Panel." Click "Administrative Tools" and then double-click "Internet Services Manager." This opens the main IIS manager, where you configure your new server to serve the website files in the inetpub directory.

    • 2

Right-click "Default Web Site" and select "New." Select "Virtual Directory" from the list of options. This starts a wizard where you create a new site on your new server.

    • 3

Type an alias for your new website. The alias name should be the same as the current virtual directory alias on the current server. Click "Next."

    • 4

Click the "Browse" button on the next screen to select the location of the virtual directory content. Click "Next."

    • 5

Check the boxes labeled "Read" and "Run Scripts" for access permissions. Click "Next," then "Finished" to finalize your settings.

    • 6

Copy the virtual directory content from your old server to the new server. Open your web browser to check the settings. Enter the location of the website. The new server host uses the copied inetpub to display the website in your browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • Repeat these steps for each website hosted on your server.
