How to Make Photo Dome Lapel Pins
Dome photo lapel pins feature an image or photo covered by an epoxy dome. The clear epoxy rises up over the photo just slightly, protecting it from water and the elements. These lapel pins often represent an organization, an award or an accomplishment, but they may also feature whimsical or humorous images. You can make original lapel pins at home with just a few craft supplies. Make them as holiday gifts or as awards for your children’s accomplishments.

1
Nip the cord loops from your pendant blank with tin snips. Try not to snip the pendant blank itself, but remove the loop completely, leaving no sharp points on the edges. A pendant blank is a small, metal shape with a shallow lip around the edge to hold images.
-
2
Press the back of your image into your pendant blank so it leaves an indent around the part of the image you plan to use. Snip out the image, using the indents for guidelines. Glue the image into your pendant blank.

Pour about 2 teaspoons of resin powder into your applicator bottle. Applicator bottles have a lid with a long, tapered cone-shaped tip on the top. Add and mix the activator from your resin kit according to package directions. Stir thoroughly with a Popsicle stick.
-
4
Place the edge of your applicator tip against the right edge of your image, just inside the pendant blank. Slowly squeeze resin into the pendant blank, keeping the applicator still. Continue squeezing until the blank is full and the resin balloons up in a slight dome above the edges. Remove the applicator very gently.
-
5
Allow your resin to cure for at least 48 hours. Apply a little E-6000 adhesive to the top of a lapel pin blank and glue it to the center of the back of your pendant blank. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours and wear your lapel pin proudly.
