Things You'll Need

  • Broom
  • Shop vacuum
  • Garden hose
  • Coal-tar-based asphalt sealer
  • Applicator brush

      Clear the driveway of all movable objects. Sweep the surface to remove dirt and debris. You may also use a shop vacuum to help clean up debris.

      Use a garden hose to spray down the asphalt, clearing fine dust and particles from the surface and rinsing away stains. Allow the asphalt to dry completely before continuing.

      Thoroughly mix the asphalt sealer until it is uniform consistency.

      Pour the sealer directly onto the surface in 5- to 6-foot sections. Quickly spread to an even coat using the applicator brush.

      Allow the sealer to dry for at least 24 hours before driving or walking onto the surface.
