How to Make Homemade Hockey Cards
Like many of the other offerings on the sports card market, hockey cards are beloved and well sought after by many collectors. Not all cards have to be destined for the collector’s market and display cases, as some simply want to make their own cards, either for fandom or as a fun and creative art project. Whether it’s for fun or to create some simple keepsakes, making the cards can be a shared project with all the hockey-loving members of your family.

1
Place the hockey card of your choice on the cardstock and trace around the perimeter of the card. Set the card aside and use the scissors to cut out the card shape on the stock, creating a template by which to size your new cards.
-
2
Look in several hockey publications, such as The Hockey News’ or the NHL’s preseason annuals, for pictures. These, and other magazines, like ESPN and Sports Illustrated, feature professional color action photos of many of the sport’s prominent and rising stars.

3
Select the players or members of a particular team that you wish to make cards of. Lay the cardstock template over the photo in the magazine, and trace the perimeter of your template. Remove the template, and cut around the edges you drew to cut the picture in the magazine to size.
-
4
Use the card template to cut out additional templates on the cardstock; cut out as many pieces as you did magazine pictures. Generously apply glue to the cardstock cards, then firmly press each picture onto the piece of cardstock. Allow the glue to dry.
-
5
Write the names of the respective players on each card in the desired colors. Alternately, use a word program to create the labels with your computer and a printer. Peel the stickers from the sticker sheet, and attach them to their player’s card.
