Homemade Holiday Air Freshener

Add warmth to your home with a homemade holiday air freshener.

The holidays are a time of friends, family, food and parties. If you are having a holiday party, or you just want to get in the holiday spirit, consider making your own holiday air freshener. Although you can buy holiday air fresheners at the store, save money and create your own right at home. You can make a Christmas pine-scented gel air freshener, or a Thanksgiving clove and cinnamon spray air freshener. Your home will smell of the lovely scents of the holidays that are sure to put everyone in the spirit.

Things You'll Need

• Water
• Small saucepan
• 1 oz. powdered gelatin
• Whisk
• 1 tbsp. table salt
• 25 drops of fir pine essential oil
• 2 drops of lemon essential oil
• Sweet orange essential oil
• 1 drop of bergamot essential oil
• Heat-proof jar
• Green food coloring (optional)
• Skewer stick or chopstick
• Empty spray bottle
• 1 cup clear vodka
• 10 drops of clove essential oil
• 12 drops of cinnamon essential oil

Instructions

Pine-Scented Air Freshener Gel

1. Pour 1 cup of water into a small saucepan. Put the pan on the stove and bring the water to a boil.

2. Remove the pan from the heat. Sprinkle 1 oz. of powdered gelatin into the water and stir with a whisk until the gelatin has dissolved completely.

3. Add 1 tbsp. of table salt and 1 cup of cold water. Whisk the mixture for about a minute until it is smooth.

4. Put 25 drops of fir pine essential oil, 3 drops of lemon essential oil, 2 drops of sweet orange essential oil and 1 drop of bergamot essential oil into a heat-proof jar. Add a drop or two of green food coloring, if desired. Old candle jars work well for holding the air freshener.

5. Pour the hot gelatin liquid immediately into the jar. Use a skewer stick or chopstick to stir until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Cinnamon and Clove Air Freshener Spray

1. Pour 1 cup of cool water into a clean, empty spray bottle. Make sure there are no traces of any other scents or products left in the bottle.

2. Add 1 cup of clear vodka, 10 drops of clove essential oil, 15 drops of sweet orange essential oil and 12 drops of cinnamon essential oil.

3. Secure the lid on the bottle and shake it up well to combine the ingredients. Shake the bottle before each use.
