How to Use a Wii Remote on a PC

The Nintendo Wii remote is a motion-sensitive video game controller used with the Nintendo Wii game console. Because the Wii remote uses Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to the Wii, it is capable of connecting to other Bluetooth devices–your PC, for example. Thanks to hobbyists and hackers, drivers are available that allow you to use the Nintendo Wii remote as a game controller or mouse on your computer. All you need is a Wii remote and a Bluetooth-capable PC.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold down the "1" and "2" buttons on your Wii remote simultaneously. The blue lights on the bottom of the Wii remote will start to blink, but continue to hold down the two buttons.

    • 2

Click "Start" then "Control Panel" and open "Bluetooth Devices" from the Control Panel box. Select the device called "Nintendo RVL-CNT-01" and click "Connect." If you are asked for a PIN code, leave the field blank. You may now release the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii remote.

    • 3

Download the WiinRemote software (see Resources). This will come in a ZIP file. Double-click the ZIP file and extract the WiinRemote executable to the folder of your choice.

    • 4

Start the WiinRmote software by double-clicking the executable file. Using this software, you can map commands to certain buttons on the Wii remote. You can even map certain motions (such as turning the Wii remote left and right) to commands.
