How to Put Toga Valances on the Rod

Adding a valance to your curtains increases the elegance of the window dressings dramatically. Toga valances, in particular, lend a romantic air to a room with their swathes of fabric that harken back to the graceful item of clothes whose name they bear. Much like an actual toga, toga valances are made up material draped and wrapped in a precise manner. Instructions

      Screw the rod end onto one side of the curtain rod.

      Slide the first section, or panel, of the first valance onto your curtain rod. The rod should be in the sewn channel along the top of the valance.

      Insert the rod into the first panel of the second colored valance.

      Thread the next panel of the first valance onto the rod. Drape the material on top of the second colored valance.

      Insert the rod into the second panel of the second colored valance. The material should drape over the previous valance when it goes onto the rod.

      Alternate putting the valances on the rod, always passing the one being threaded onto the rod in front of the other valance, until all of the material is hung from the rod.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to find a valance that uses a single light color and a single bold color for the best complement of colors.

  • A valance doesn’t provide privacy and is merely meant to be decorative.
