Step 1

Write a letter to the Minister of Justice’s office at 5151 Terminal Road, P.O. Box 7, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 2L6, Canada, applying to be a notary public. Explain your reasons for doing so and what particular skills you bring to the position, such as legal knowledge in a specific area or ability to serve as a mobile notary public.

Step 2

Complete the application and personal information documents you will receive from the Minister of Justice and return them. If you are selected to become a notary public, you will be contacted to schedule a date to be sworn in.

Step 3

Attend your swearing-in and commit to serving as a notary public. You are now eligible to certify documents in Nova Scotia.
