How to Use Google Maps in Publications
There are basically two ways to use Google Maps in publications. For documents that are Web-based, such as Web pages, Google Maps code may be embedded to reproduce the desired Google Map on the Web page. For print publications, Google Maps provides a printing component that enables the user to print the generated Google Map. Print this page or convert the page to PDF (if Adobe Acrobat is installed) for use in print media and paper publications.
Instructions
-
Embed Google Maps Code into Web Page Source File
-
1
Open an Internet browser and navigate to the Google Maps site (see Resources).
-
2
Type an address into the “Search Maps” input box and click the “Search Maps” button. The location will display on the Google Map in the right pane. The mapped location will be designated with a red dot and a letter, such as “A.”
-
-
3
Click the “Link” option on the top right side of the generated map. A box with two fields will open. The first field contains the URL for the generated map. The second field contains HTML code to embed into a Web page source file. The HTML code will paste the graphical Google Map image with the specified location into the Web page.
-
4
Copy the URL by selecting the text in the first field, and then pressing the CRTL + C keys. Paste the URL into an email or into a Web page source file to provide a link to the generated Google map by pressing CRTL + V.
-
5
Copy the HTML code in the second field by selecting all text and pressing CRTL + C on the keyboard. Paste the HTML code into the desired location in a Web page source file by pressing CRTL + V. Save the file, and then upload it to the website. The embedded HTML code will render the Google Map, with the mapped location, on the webpage.
