How to Make Flaxseed Pillows
Flaxseed pillows–used for relaxation–are created using raw flaxseeds tucked inside a soft, silky fabric. Dried lavender buds often are added for their scent. Because these pillows are filled with flaxseeds, they are mildly weighted and will conform easily to the landscape of the face. Flaxseed pillows can be purchased from a specialty store, or you can create your own using simple materials and following a few easy steps.
Things You'll Need
- Silk fabric
- 2 cups flaxseeds
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Small funnel
- 1/4 cup dried lavender buds
- Thread
- Needle
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a piece of silk fabric 6 inches wide by 18 inches long–you will be creating a pillow about 3 by 9 inches.
-
2
Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, lining up the edges.
-
-
3
Sew around the perimeter of the folded rectangle, leaving a 2-inch seam area open.
-
4
Turn the rectangle inside out by stuffing the fabric through the unsewn opening. Use a pencil, letter opener or skewer to make the corners nice and crisp.
-
5
Insert a small funnel into the opening of the rectangle.
-
6
Pour 2 cups of flaxseeds through the funnel and into the pillow. Avoid over stuffing the pillow. You can purchase flaxseeds from any natural foods market or online merchant.
-
7
Pour 1/4 cup dried lavender buds through the funnel and into the pillow. This will add a relaxing scent to the pillow.
-
8
Remove the funnel. Fold in the edges of the opening, and sew it closed.
-
9
Place the flaxseed pillow over your eyes for relaxation.
