How to Make a Book Report Cover

Book reports have become a fundamental part of a student’s education from elementary school to some college courses. A cover to your book report can include some interesting relevant artwork as well the key information identifying the report’s author and teacher. As with any book, though, a functional cover doesn’t mean the contents are boring or unimportant.

Instructions

Open a blank document in a word-processing program. A program, such as Apple’s Pages, Corel's WordPerfect, OpenOffice or Microsoft’s Word, offers a range of fonts, formatting tools and layout options. Stay away from unusual colors or unnecessary frills, as this will distract from your report.

    • 2

Type the title of the book, the book’s author, your own name and the class information in the document. The class information includes the teacher’s name, the course name and the course number, if necessary. Boldface the title of the book to help it stand out. For high school courses, instead of just writing the title of the book, consider writing a title for your book report, such as “Alienation in Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury” or "The Motivation of Ahab in Melville's Moby Dick."

Consider adding design elements, like visual images. You can paste a famous illustration of the book onto the book report cover. For instance, William Blake’s illustrations of John Milton’s poem “Paradise Lost” would be a nice complement to your own book report. If you include someone else’s art, you should cite it, with the artist’s name, the title of the artwork, and the location of the artwork.

Copy edit the book cover for typos and other grammatical errors. Fact check any details about images as well.
