How to Connect a DVD Recorder and an HDTV on the Same Input
DVD recorders function in a similar fashion to DVRs (digital video recorders) in that they record data from your television programming onto a built-in hard drive. However, once the information is stored onto a DVD recorder's hard drive, it is possible to burn the information onto an inserted DVD. You may use a DVD recorder with just about any television, including an HDTV.

1
Determine what is the best resolution cable connection the two devices share. If the DVD recorder is a high-definition Blu-ray burner, the best cable connection is HDMI. However, if the DVD recorder is just a standard definition recorder, the best cable connection is with component cables.
-
2
Insert the appropriate cable into the "Out" port(s) on the DVD recorder. If using an HDMI cable, insert it into the "HDMI-Out" port. If using component cables, insert the red, blue and green video cables into the "Component Out" ports and the red and white RCA audio cables into the "Audio-Out" ports.

3
Insert the opposite end of the cables into the connection port on the HDTV. The HDMI cable inserts into one of the "HDMI-In" ports while the component cables connect into the "Component In" and the RCA audio into the "Audio In."
-
4
Power on the television and the DVD recorder. Press "Input" and either select "HDMI" or "Component," depending on the cable connection.
