1
Send for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. This can be done online using the CRB website. Any employers will want to see evidence that you have not committed any crimes, particularly ones involving children, before they offer you a job.

2
Pass your driving test. Many employers expect nannies to do the shopping and drop their kids off at school. You do not need to own a car but it helps if you know how to drive one.

3
Take a first aid course. Organizations such as the Red Cross offer weekend first aid courses, teaching you how to resuscitate a child, among other things. A first aid certificate is not a prerequisite for a nannying job in England but it helps convince employers that their children will be safe in your hands.

4
Obtain references from previous employers. Ideally, these should be people living in the UK, but if necessary they can be from abroad. Good references make it much easier to get a job as a nanny in England.

5
Put leaflets up in local post offices and supermarkets advertising your services. Ask friends if they know anybody who needs a nanny. This is an especially good way to get your first job. Parents are likely to hire based on the recommendation of a friend, even if you have no previous experience as a nanny or references.

Look on websites for nanny and au pair jobs. Apply for any that sound interesting. Look for part-time work in a day care center or somewhere else you will meet the parents of young children. Once people meet you in person, they are more likely to offer you a job as a nanny.
