How to Become a Midwife in Melbourne
Because Melbourne, Australia, is in Victoria, all midwives must be registered with the Nurses Board of Victoria. If you already have a qualification and/or work experience as a midwife, you will need to register with the Nurses Board of Victoria and obtain an endorsement in midwifery before you can practice as a midwife in the state. All midwives must become qualified by earning the appropriate degree, such as the Bachelor of Midwifery, from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Things You'll Need
- Birth certificate (and any change of name documentation)
- Victorian certificate of course completion and transcript in midwifery
- Graduate diploma/higher degree in midwifery (if qualifications gained outside Victoria)
- Transcript of course in midwifery (if qualifications gained outside Victoria)
- Work statement of registered midwifery work experience (if qualifications gained outside Victoria)
