How to Do a Business Name Search in Western Australia

Search for a Western Australian business name online through the Department of Commerce.

If you are starting a business, you should ensure that the name you have chosen is not being used by another business. You may also wish to search for a business name to learn more information about the business and who operates it. In Western Australia, you can search for information about a registered business online through the Department of Commerce website for a small fee. You will receive an extract containing the details of the business.

Instructions

1. Visit the Department of Commerce website of Western Australia (see Reference). Type the business name or registration number into the boxes of the online form. Press 'Search.'

2. Review the list of registered businesses displayed that match your search query. Select the extracts you wish to view by clicking the box in the 'Select Extract' column. Each extract will cost $5 to purchase as of 2010.

3. Click 'Purchase Extracts.' The next page will tell you the amount due. Click 'continue' to proceed.

4. Enter your credit card details and click 'Continue' to make a purchase. The extracts you have purchased will be available online for download for 14 days. If you have any problems using the system, you can call Customer Service on 1300 30 40 14.
