How to Hook Up Hoses on a Maytag Washing Machine
Eventually your current washing machine will see its final days and you may likely replace it with a Maytag washing machine. If you happen to be a do-it-yourself home repair person, opt not to pay extra for the Maytag man to come to your home to hook up three hoses. Does this Spark an idea?

Connect the two black hoses that came with the Maytag washing machine to the hot water and cold water shut off valves located on the wall. It does not matter which hose you connect to which valve. However, take note of which shut off valve is hot water and which valve is cold water. Use the channel lock pliers to tighten the hose connectors to the shut off valves.

Locate the hose that extends from the hot water valve and connect it to the hot water union on the back of the washing machine. The union is plastic. Use standard pliers to tighten the hose to the union but do not over tighten the hose.

Locate the hose that extends from the cold water valve and connect it to the cold water union on the back of the washing machine. Again, the union is plastic. Use standard pliers to tighten the hose to the union but do not over tighten the hose.

Locate the drain plug on the bottom rear of the washing machine. Often, the plug is covered with a small plate. If the drain is covered by a plate on your model of machine, remove the plate with a screwdriver and pop out the metal tab located on the metal plate.

Press the flexible hose onto the drain plug and secure the band clamp with a screwdriver if one is provided with the model of machine you have. If one is not provided it is a good idea to purchase one and install it for added security. However, this is purely optional. Place the other end of the hose into the “soak stack” or tube that connects to your drainage system.

Tips & Warnings
Start the washer and check for leaks at the unions, cold water shut off and the drainage hose. If any leaks are present, tighten the corresponding hose.

I just bought a good used maytag HD washer and decided to buy new stainless steel mesh water supply lines.The water inlet fittings are set in so far into the back of the machine that I can hardly get channels or pliers in there to tighten.It seems like its now tight as hell, to the point that I'm afraid of cracking the washer valve itself.Don't know how far to go? I mean it's ridiculous.and yes there's the black rubber washers down in the hose ends.I even tried doubling up with the washers but couldn't get it to even start threading. These sites talk about and so does the packaging of the new hoses, saying "finger tight, then 1/4 turn with pliers...That's a friggin joke! Any suggestions appreciated.
