How to Solder Audio Connectors
Audio connectors carry digitized audio signals between electronic devices, allowing the sound in one device to be read by another. Should there ever by a physical break in the wire, or if you want to attach audio connectors to create a longer cord, you will need to solder the internal components together. Because the connectors are essentially a combination of metal wires, soldering them together is a fairly straightforward task.

1
Choose the points on the audio connectors where the soldering will occur, either where the wire is damaged or the point you want to solder two connectors together.
-
2
Unsheath 1 cm on each cut edge of the audio connector to reveal the wires.
-
-
3
Unsheath 2 mm of the wires to reveal the metal (often copper) innards. Do not be alarmed if the metalk innards fray.
-
4
Touch the two exposed ends of the wires together.
-
5
Touch the tip of the solder to the exposed wires.
-
6
Tap the tip of the solder lightly with a heated soldering iron. The end of the solder will liquefy and then harden around the exposed wires.
-
7
Allow 1-2 more drops of solder to coat the wires (enough to cover both sides of the exposed wire).
-
8
Remove the soldering iron and solder from the wires.
-
9
Wrap electric tape around the wires at the point of soldering to insulate them.
