Making Flower Crowns
Flower crowns add a touch of decoration and whimsy to weddings, fairy tale games and spring celebrations like Easter and Beltane. Since flowers grow right in many people’s backyards or in local parks, you can pluck them and create flower crowns for free. You just have to make sure the flowers you pick aren’t protected and you should pick them the day of your celebration if possible to avoid wilt. Of course, you may also make more permanent crowns with dried or silk flowers. Whatever your materials, these crowns take only a few minutes to make.

1
Snip the stems of all of your flowers to about 3 inches. Gather them together in small, equal bunches. For instance, you may place three painted daisies, a small sunflower and a tiger lily in each bunch. Set the bunches into separate piles.
-
2
Bend a thin, flexible branch into a circle that fits easily onto your head. Snip away the excess and secure the circle with green floral tape. Weeping willow, pussy willow and weeping cherry branches work well.

3
Place your first bunch of flowers with the stems pressed against the branch. Tape the bundle in place and position the next bundle so it hides the stems of the first. Continue placing and taping bundles until the entire branch is covered.

Tips & Warnings
Make a very simple, very fast flower chain by splitting the stems about an inch from the flower heads with your fingernails. Slip the stem of one flower through the slit in another, continuing until you get a chain long enough to wrap around your head.
