How to Install Roll-Up Blinds

How to Install Roll-Up Blinds thumbnail
Blinds obscure the view inside of your home.

Roll-up blinds block light and obscure the view inside your home from the outside. Fabric and wood roll-up blinds differ from roller shades and mini-blinds. Unlike roller shades, roller blinds are not spring loaded and do not rely on tension for raising and lowering the blind. Mini-blinds use a similar mechanism for lifting and lowering the blind, but only move in a straight vertical line. Proper installation of the roll-up blind and the control cord are essential for safety, especially when children are in the home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the roll-up blinder header with a tape measure. The header runs along the top edge of the roll up blind and connects to the installed mounting hardware.

    • 2

Compare the length of the roll-up blind header to the width of the window. A header larger than the window mounts outside the window opening and inside the window opening for a header that's smaller than the window width.

    • 3

Select the hardware supplied with the roll up blind that matches the type of installation required.

    • 4

Mark the locations of the mounting hardware with a pencil. The recommended locations are supplied with the roll-up blind mounting hardware.

    • 5

Hold a mounting bracket on the mounting location. When the bracket aligns with the mark, push the tip of an awl into each mounting hole. Repeat the process on the other side of the window.

    • 6

Run a supplied screw into each mounting location while holding the bracket in place with a 1/4-inch hex head secured in the chuck of a drill motor.

    • 7

Locate and secure a center mounting bracket (required on large windows), as described earlier for standard mounting brackets.

    • 8

Secure the roll up blind in the mounting brackets per the blind installation instructions.

    • 9

Pull the control cord tight. Mount the cord bracket to the inside of the window opening with the supplied screws.
