DVDs have audio tracks you can convert to MP3 after you get the video file.

The video file on DVD, which is often in VOB format, also has an audio component. When converting a DVD video to MP3, you need to "rip" the video file to your computer first. Then, you can convert the video file to MP3. Both of these tasks can be accomplished with different free programs available online. This can be a useful process to go through if there's an audio part on a DVD that you really like that you want to listen to on your MP3 player.

Instructions

  1. Rip DVD

      Download and install a program that can rip your DVD, like Format Factory (see Resources).

      Click the tab with "DVD" in it. Click the "DVD to video file" button.

      Select your DVD from the list in the drop-down menu at the top of the new window that appears. Selct a video format from the output format list, such as "WMV." Click "Convert" to begin ripping.

    Convert

      Navigate to a website like ConvertFiles or Media-Convert (see Resources).

      Upload your ripped video file to the site with the "Browse" or "Choose file" button.

      Select "MP3" as your format under the drop-down menu for formats.

      Click "Convert" to begin converting to the MP3 format. Click the link that appears to download the MP3 file to your computer.
