1
Lay four large ceramic tiles in a square in the spot where you want the fire pit to be. The tile should be about 12 inches by 12 inches. If you want an elevated fire pit, consider laying the tiles two or three tiles layers high.
-
2
Lay five bricks in a circle on top of the tile base. The bricks should be touching at the corners. Lay one brick on top of this circle, so that the center of the brick is directly on top of the spot where two of the bottom layer bricks meet. Use this top brick as a guide and lay four more bricks in a circle so you now have a circle pit made of two layers of bricks.

4
Lay a metal grate on top of the pit. The grate can be purchased at most camping or outdoor supply stores, and acts as a protector against flying embers or burning wood that might be picked up by the wind.
