How to Send a Fax With DSL
If you've got a DSL or other broadband Internet connection in your home, you can send a fax for free without the need for a fax machine. A few websites--including eFax, MyFax and FaxZero--allow you to send faxes for free, and all three are easy to use. All you need is a scanner or a word-processing program to set up the document you want to send. With the right tools, sending faxes over your DSL connection is easy.

1
Scan the document you want to fax into your computer and save it as a PDF or DOC file. Your scanner's software will have an option for exporting the files you scan as PDFs, so this is the ideal option--but either is fine.

2
Go online and visit any of the following websites: FaxZero, eFax or MyFax (see Resources). The process for using these three websites is the same and the service is free.

Type your name, email address and recipient's fax number into the appropriate fields. There will be a field with a "Browse" button next to it; press the "Browse" button and locate the file you scanned or created earlier. Double-click the file to fill in the field automatically.

4
Enter the confirmation code into the appropriate field. You'll find the code in a box near the field; this is used to confirm that you're an actual human being trying to send a real fax. Click the "Send" button.

5
Check your email for a confirmation email from the website you used. The email will include a link you must click in order send the fax. Once the fax process is complete, you'll receive another email confirming the transmission.
