How to Clean a Print Cartridge on an HP 960c

The HP 960C printer, like any office or personal printer, is susceptible to internal dust build-up and debris. When you get dust or dirt on the ink cartridges or in the carrier, it can affect your print quality, damage ink cartridges or possibly damage the print heads. You can avoid long term damage by cleaning the cartridges and the carrier every few months, or any time you notice inconsistencies in your print quality.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the power on to your HP 960C. Open the top cover of the printer. Unplug the power cord to the printer after the ink cartridges move to the center of the printer body.

    • 2

Open the cartridge carriers and remove the ink cartridges. Lay the cartridges on their sides on a paper towel.

    • 3

Hold the ink cartridge by the top. Dip a cotton swab into distilled water and drain any excess. Wipe the face and sides of the cartridge with the cotton swab. Do not touch the metal contacts or the ink tip on the cartridge.

    • 4

Inspect the cartridge for any sign of lint. Repeat the cleaning if necessary until all debris and lint is gone. Repeat the process with a clean cotton swab for the other ink cartridge.

    • 5

Wipe the inside of the ink cartridge carrier inside the printer with clean, moistened cotton swabs. Continue cleaning the cartridge with clean swabs until no dirt is visible on the swabs.

    • 6

Insert the ink cartridges into the carrier. Close the cover until it clicks to lock the cartridges in place. Plug in the power cord and turn the power on to the printer.
