How to Create & Print File Holder Labels
Printing your own file holder labels can help you get your office, or your home, more organized. Hanging file folders are very useful, and the ability to print the holders at home makes them even more so. Luckily, you can print these labels at home, making it easy to create new holders and labels whenever you need them. But before you can print the labels, you need to gather the right supplies and know the right printing techniques.
Instructions

1
Measure the size of the holders on your hanging file folders. Be sure to get an accurate measurement--an accurate size will ensure you get the right size labels.
-
2
Purchase proper size holder labels at your office supply store. When buying labels, look for the Avery equivalent number--you can use this number to select the right label format in your word processing program.

3
Log on to your computer, and open your word processing program. Click on the "Tools" menu and choose "Letters and Mailings" from the list.
-
4
Click on "Envelopes and Labels," then click on the "Labels" tab. Click the "Labels" button to see a list of all available labels.
-
5
Scroll through the descriptions of the labels on the left-hand side of the screen. Highlight the number of the label you are using, and click "OK." Click the "New Document" button.
-
6
Type the information for your file holder labels. Load the blank label sheets into your printer, click the "File" menu, and choose "Print" to send the labels to the printer.
-
7
Peel the labels off of the sheet, and place them carefully over the holder on the hanging file folders. Cut off or tuck under any part of the label that is longer than the holder itself.
