3
Find a reputable modeling agency to represent you with your parents’ help. No agency in the U.K. will take you on if you are under 18 and not accompanied by your legal guardian. Send your photographs to top modeling agencies (see Resources). The agencies will contact you if interested. You can also attend walk-ins when they are held.
-
4
Do your homework. Learn about the different types of modeling, such as fashion, commercial, plus-size and glamor modeling. Choose an area of modeling that is well suited for you. Each of these areas require different skills and profiles.
-
5
Build confidence as you will face tough competition and have to deal with rejection. You may also work in adverse conditions like rain, cold weather and outdoor locations. You will also have to travel a lot. Remain calm under pressure and maintain a pleasant personality. If you ever feel uncomfortable with something you are asked to do, always let your parents know.
-
6
Conduct yourself professionally. Arrive on time and make a good impression. Be polite, patient and a good listener, and follow the photographer's, make-up artist’s or client’s instructions.
-
7
Study. Most agencies will only require that you work part-time if you are under 16. Many teenagers see modeling as a quick way to become rich, but the reality is that being a model is a short-lived career with great income irregularity.
-
8
Build interest in fashion and trends in clothes, hair and make-up. Attend fashion shows and read fashion magazines. Know the names of designers, brands, producers and companies you might work for in the future.
