1
Start with a simple hanging light fixture with a metal lampshade. You can use a cheap hanging farm and barn light fixture, or you can refurbish an old light fixture from a second-hand store by removing whatever casing or shade is on it and adding a metal lamp shade from a clamp light.
-
2
Drill evenly spaced holes around the rim of the metal lampshade using a drill with a metal drill bit. How many holes you add depends on how much you want dangling from your shade.
-
-
3
Paint the metal lampshade a color of your choice using metal spray paint.
-
4
Cut lengths of craft wire for each drilled hole to the desired length using wire cutters. Add an inch or two so you have extra length for adding the wires to the lampshade.
-
5
Affix a crimp bead to the ends of the wires as a bead stopper and to keep the beads in place once the strands are hung. Secure the crimp bead by squeezing it with crimping pliers. Squeeze it a second time, if necessary, to shape and round the crimp bead.
-
6
String the strands of craft wire with beads and crystals of your choosing. You can create a repeating pattern, or the strands can be sporadic and eccentric.
-
7
Affix the beaded strands to the shades by poking the wire ends through the drilled holes and adding crimp beads on the inside of the lampshade.
-
8
Cut off any excess wire with the wire cutters.
