Learn how to create a bank resume.

Finding a job can be a full-time job in itself, and with the possibility of many others vying for the same job, you'll want an advantage over the competition. Having a legible and professional resume can be the key to landing a job in the highly competitive banking industry. An effective resume must be tailored to the job that you're applying for.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your personal contact information at the top of the resume, either centered or in the left corner. This information should be in bold and include your name, address, contact phone numbers, email address, and your personal web site if you have one.

    • 2

Create an objective section. This will be a simple statement of your intention to apply for the job such as: To acquire employment with (list name of the bank).

    • 3

Create an education section and list–in chronological order–your education history. For employment with a bank, if you majored in accounting or took any other financial classes, this should be listed. Include the name of your college or university, the dates you attended, your major and minor, GPA, and what type of degree you earned. List any technical or trade schools if they relate to the banking industry.

    • 4

Create a work history section and list your relevant employment in chronological order starting with the most recent job. This means that you don't want to list any employment that doesn't directly relate to the banking industry. i.e., don't list your job delivering newspapers. Any bank teller positions, or other jobs in a financial institution, should be listed here. Management positions that you've held should also be listed.

    • 5

Create a related-skills section. For a banking job, typing skills, foreign language ability, or money handling experience would be relevant.

Tips & Warnings

  • Include any certificates or awards you have received that would be relevant to the banking industry.

  • Stay away from flashy fonts, colors, and anything else that would distract an employer from the purpose of your resume. Use a standard resume template, available with most Microsoft or Mac computers, and use a standard, legible font such as Helvetica or Times New Roman, in letter size 12.
