DIY Pillow Cover
Pillow covers are an excellent way to keep your throw pillows from becoming soiled. Make them from washable fabric so you can remove the covers and launder them. Another advantage to pillow covers is that you can easily change the décor of your room with each passing season. Envelope style pillow covers are the easiest to make as they require no zipper construction. These instructions are for a14-inch pillow cover.

1
Open the fabric to the wrong side. Measure and mark a 15 inch square for the front of the pillow cover. Cut along the markings.
-
2
Measure and mark a rectangle of 23 inches across and 15 inches top to bottom for the pillow cover back. Cut along the markings. Cut this piece in half, lengthwise, giving you two 11 1/2-inch wide pieces of fabric.

3
Work with the back pieces first. Make a finished edge on each of the 15-inch, inside edges of the two pieces. Iron one-half inch under, towards the inside of the fabric. Sew along the inside edges of each fold all the way across.
-
4
Pin the raw edge of one of the back pieces to the one of the sides of the front piece, right sides together. Sew a one-half-inch seam over the straight pins. Remove the pins.
-
5
Pin the other back piece to the opposite end of the front piece of fabric. Repeat the same procedure as with the first back piece. The two back pieces will overlap in the center of the pillow cover.
-
6
Pin the top and bottom of the pillow cover together, including the front piece and the back pieces. Sew a ½ inch over the top of the pins. Remove the pins.
-
7
Turn the pillow cover right side out through the overlapped opening in the back. Iron it flat. Work the pillow into the pillow cover through the overlapped opening at the back.
