How to Imprint Envelopes

How to Imprint Envelopes thumbnail
Blank envelopes can be imprinted for a more polished look.

Imprinting envelopes for business or personal use can make an important letter or friendly greeting card really stand out. Printed text appears more neat and professional on an envelope than handwritten text that looks crooked or sloppy. Many basic types of publishing software offer envelope template options that you can personalize and print in no time. (See Reference 1.) As of 2010, you can even order 500 blank envelopes online for about $30. (See Reference 2.) As long as you have publishing software and a printer, you can save money and create your own imprinted envelopes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up a new document in your publishing software. Select an envelope template in the correct size that matches your blank mailing envelopes.

    • 2

Choose a clear, legible type of font for your text. Select a standard text size of about 12 or 14.

    • 3

Select the text box tool in the menu. Click and drag your mouse to create a text box in the center of the envelope.

    • 4

Type the recipient’s name and mailing address into the centered text box. Double check the street numbers and spelling to make sure your envelopes will be mailed to the correct recipient. Include the company’s name and relevant post office box information if you are addressing envelopes to a business.

    • 5

Select the text box tool again in the menu. Click and drag your mouse to create a new text box in the upper left hand corner of the envelope.

    • 6

Type your name and mailing address into the text box. Include your company’s name and contact person if you are imprinting envelopes for a business.

    • 7

Name and save your document once you have finished typing in the necessary information. Select the “Print” option from the menu and click on the “Properties” button. Change the paper option to an envelope of the desired size.

    • 8

Determine how many copies you need to print and load the appropriate number of blank envelopes into your printer's paper tray. Insert the envelopes either face down or face up in the tray, depending on the type of printer you have. Turn your printer on and print as many envelopes as needed.
