Plug your HP Deskjet 812c printer into a wall outlet. Use the USB cable that came with your HP Deskjet 812c printer to plug it into any available USB port on your computer.

Turn on both your computer and your HP Deskjet 812c printer.

Place the HP Deskjet 812c printer CD-ROM into your computer's DVD/CD drive. When Windows automatically loads the software installation utility, click "Install." When this process is finished, remove the CD-ROM. Your HP Deskjet 812c printer is now set up and ready for use on your computer.

Open a document that you'd like to print. This can be any document, either text or an image. The document will open in its compatible program on your PC.

Click "File" and "Print." Select your HP Deskjet 812c printer from the drop-down menu and click "Print" to send your document to the HP Deskjet 812c, which will then recreate it using ink on paper.
