Homemade Tetherball
Tetherball is a fun outdoor sport for children of all ages. Instead of buying a set at the local department store, you can involve the whole family and build your own set at home with a few materials and a little time. It is a fairly simple project and after it's done, you'll have a durable family game that will bring hours of fun for years to come.
Things You'll Need
- One hollow metal pole (height varying on the height of the players)
- Power drill
- Thin rope
- Medium sized vinyl ball with a loop on top
- Tire
- Plastic trash bag
- Bag of cement
- Mixing trough
- Shovel

Drill a hole through the pole two inches from the top, using the power drill.

Lay the old tire out on the trash bag.

Pour the bag of cement mix into the mixing trough and mix with water according to the directions on the bag. Mix with the shovel.

Fill the opening of the tire all the way with the cement mixture using the shovel after allowing the mixture to sit in the trough for a 3 to 4 minutes.

Allow the cement to firm for 3 to 4 minutes, then place the pole into the center of the cement with the end of the pole with the hole pointing upward. Make sure the pole is standing straight up and down by using a level on the top of the pole. Make the necessary adjustments while the cement is still wet.

Allow the cement to harden overnight, then tie one end of the rope through the hole in the top of the pole and one end of the rope through the loop on the top of the vinyl ball.

Tips & Warnings
After the tetherball game is assembled, it easily rolls to any location in your yard.
Always wear safety goggles while drilling.
Carefully read all instructions on cement mix.
